Samurai-Art is a gallery specializing in the material culture of medieval and premodern Japan as it relates to the warrior class—the samurai. We proudly present samurai armor (yoroi) and its components—kabuto helmets, mempó face masks, Japanese swords, and other high-quality artifacts and works of art.
In the past, the gallery has also collaborated on non-commercial and charitable projects, such as the exhibition “Japan of the Samurai” (2024) at the Clam-Gallas Palace in the center of Prague, to which it loaned a large number of exhibits.
Members of the gallery team have been collaborating with the Nihontō Kenkyūkai (Society for the Study of the Japanese Sword) for many years and are proud members of JAS (The Japanese Armour Society).
Born in 1975 in Prague, curator emeritus of the non-European collections at the National Gallery in Prague, honorary member of the Society for the Study of the Japanese Sword, and member of JAS (The Japanese Armour Society).
He has curated numerous exhibitions on the Japanese sword and Asian art. He is the recipient of the Japanese Ambassador’s Honorary Award (Hyoshojo) for outstanding contributions to mutual understanding (2025) and a member of the Knights of Bushido Hall of Fame for exceptional contributions and lifelong dedication to the martial arts (2025).
He has an extensive record of publications and lectures. He is a member of the expert committee of the Association of Antique Dealers and a lecturer in Asian art at the Rudolfinum Academy. In 2017, he served on the jury for Japan Week (in the field of ink painting and calligraphy). Since 1986, he has been studying and teaching martial arts (Hakuzan Dojo).
The history of Samurai Art began back in 1995. At its inception was an unwavering passion for the fascinating aesthetics and artisanal perfection of ancient Japan. This enthusiasm remains with us and motivates us to strive for the highest professional standards in our presentation of the material culture of the ancient samurai.
Every sword or piece of armor in our collection is a unique, exceptional item with its own history. We are not just merchants; we are guardians of history. All artifacts are personally selected and inspected directly in Japan.
We collaborate with leading experts from prestigious Japanese organizations such as NBTHK and NTHK. Thanks to this, we guarantee the originality, authenticity, and declared quality of all our gallery exhibits, ensuring that you are investing in genuine cultural heritage.
