Rare Kawari Kabuto - Nyudo helmet in the form of the head of an old mountain ascetic yamabushi, supplemented with a menpo mask, Edo period (1603 - 1868)
The mask and helmet, unusually made without a shikoro occipital cover, are made using the uchidashi technique from stainless steel with an artificially cultivated patina (sabimono), in the front part of the helmet with stylized wrinkles (shiwa) there is a real textile tokin cap, used in spiritual practice by mountain ascetics yamabushi, especially in the Dewa province.
The face mask in the me no shita bo design is with an angry expression (ressei bo) and shiwa wrinkles is strongly complementary to the helmet, and its unusual stylized ears, which are finished with the side edges of the body of the sled, fit into symmetrical cutouts in the side parts of the helmet.
The tare neck guard is made of kiritsuke sane slats, connected by sukage-style lacing with dark blue odoshi ito weave in the color called Hachiman guro.
This is an unusual type of kawari kabuto, a highly individualized helmet, made with the highest craftsmanship.
